Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director, the Pharmacist is responsible for all areas of pharmaceutical services, ensuring compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations. The role emphasizes patient and employee safety in line with Select Medical’s core values.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain drug supply, order medications (routine & emergency), manage recalls, and oversee removal of outdated meds.
• Prepare and label parenteral and sterile medications; ensure staff competency in sterile product preparation.
• Dispense and verify medications, including stat and routine orders.
• Document and record all pharmaceutical transactions, including controlled substances.
• Conduct monthly inspections of patient care units for medication safety and compliance.
• Participate in formulary management, P&T committee meetings, and quality assurance programs.
• Provide patient education on discharge medications.
• Support clinical programs such as:
  • Antimicrobial stewardship (culture review, infection treatment recommendations)
  • Pharmacokinetic and anticoagulation dosing management
• Perform medication reconciliation for admission and discharge.
• Train and educate pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

  Requirements

• Active state Pharmacist license (no pending allowed)
• Successful completion of all educational requirements for licensure
• Minimum 2 years recent hospital experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• BLS (if required by state)
• Strong clinical knowledge in antimicrobial therapy, pharmacokinetics, and anticoagulation management
• Excellent communication skills for patient/family education and provider collaboration
