Under the supervision of a Supervisor of Academic Instruction (CF), the Physical Fitness Training (PFT) Coach shall provide incarcerated people assigned to the PFT Program a comprehensive physical fitness program that will help the assigned individuals to qualify for the Fire Fighter Training (FFT) Program and, ultimately, assignment to one of the Conservation Camps (CC) staffed by Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) personnel. In addition, because the PFT Coach is qualified to conduct recreational programs, the PFT Coach will aid SCC’s Recreation Program when conventional staffing does not satisfy institutional needs. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 4.38 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. About this location -- Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country.It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams, and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.).The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park.
The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California.

Knowledge of: Principles and methods of teaching in order to provide a variety of instructional programs or courses to adult incarcerated person students in a correctional setting. Principles of educational psychology as applied to teaching to provide a positive learning environment, motivate incarcerated person students, identify special educational needs, and to communicate with other CDC professional staff. Current trends in educational methods in order to implement programs, provides educational services, and enhances classroom instruction. Remedial teaching techniques and adapting instruction to incarcerated person students’ deficiencies to fully participate equitably in an educational program, ensure program success, and to provide classroom intervention/support in order for the incarcerated person students to fulfill their educational goals. Emotional problems of incarcerated person students in a state correctional facilities to develop incarcerated person students’ self-esteem, a personalized approach to learning, connection to the learning environment, and to make medical referrals if needed.
Skill to: Provide leadership and motivation to incarcerated person students to improve their academic achievements, sense of responsibility, decision making ability, and accountability. Teach incarcerated person students to develop academic goals and objectives, evaluate learning, and to achieve instructional competencies. Work effectively with other subject matter experts to teach techniques that enhance the active involvement of incarcerated person students appropriate to a variety of subject matter materials. Gain the interest, respect, and cooperation of incarcerated person students to the degree with specific teaching methods to demonstrate an atmosphere that is fair, firm, and consistent in a classroom setting. Develop socially acceptable attitudes in incarcerated person students by modeling acceptance for cultural, racial, and individual differences in order for incarcerated person students to positively program within the institution to successfully reintegrate back into society. Communicate effectively in support of mutual respect, two way communication, support relationships among the staff, between staff and incarcerated person students, between staff and administration, and with public entities. Analyze situations accurately and take effective action to promote classroom procedures that support incarcerated person student learning, maintain standards for incarcerated person student behavior, promote social development, group responsibility, and create a physical environment that engages all students.
