The Surgical Tech assists surgeons and nurses in the operating room, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment. This role involves preparing the operating room, sterilizing equipment, and assisting during surgical procedures. The Surgical Tech must be proficient in various surgical specialties and possess strong technical and communication skills.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments and equipment.
- Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures.
- Ensure a safe and sterile environment in the operating room.
- Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs.
- Manage and handle specimens appropriately.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques, isolation precautions, and radiation safety protocols.
- Participate in fire safety and emergency management.
- Document patient care and related duties appropriately.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Tech.
- BLS certification.
- Experience in General OR, Teaching Hospital, and Trauma settings.
- Proficiency in Direct Laryngoscopy, Radial neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy.
- Proficiency in Colonoscopy, EGD, Peg tube placement/exchange.
- Proficiency in Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection - Open/LAP, Hernia repair inguinal/umbilical, Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy partial/total.
- Proficiency in Abdominal hysterectomy, Anterior/Posterior repair, Bilateral tubal ligation, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Vaginal Hysterectomy.
- Proficiency in Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion.
- Proficiency in Repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic.
- Proficiency in Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed/Open reduction of fractures, Laminectomy/discectomy.
- Proficiency in Free Flap - Microvascular.
- Proficiency in Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, MVA (multiple injuries).
- Proficiency in Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic assisted cases, Nephrectomy, Ureteroscopy.
- Proficiency in Fire Safety.
- Proficiency in Drills (multiple types), Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords.
- Knowledge of Aseptic Technique, Isolation Precautions, Radiation Safety, Sharps Safety, Specimen Handling/Labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification.
- Teaching Hospital experience.
- Trauma Level I experience.
Special Considerations:
- On-call required as needed for the department.
- Must be in IL 3 business days prior to compliance HDD in order to meet fingerprinting requirements.
- Must live >50 miles from facility to apply.
- Weekends are once a month with a total of 16 hours of obligation.
Scheduling:
- 5x8 Days (0645-1515) shift.
- Weekend work required.
- Schedule requests to be discussed with the manager.
