Job Summary:

The Stock Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, ordering, and maintaining optimal stock levels of goods and materials used in ship supply operations. This role ensures timely procurement of marine and technical supplies, provisions, and bonded stores in line with vessel requirements, quality standards, and cost-efficiency targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement & Sourcing:
  • Purchase technical spares and provisions from approved suppliers.
  • Source alternative suppliers for hard-to-find items and negotiate favorable terms.
  • Verify product specifications, certifications, and lead times.
  • Maintain an updated stock list and follow reorder levels to ensure availability without overstocking.
  • Prepare purchase orders and ensure accurate documentation and timely approvals.
  • Coordinate with logistics teams for delivery planning and stock replenishment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and service providers.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery time, and price competitiveness.
  • Ensure purchases comply with industry standards, client specifications, and company policies.
  • Work with quality control to address non-conforming products or delivery issues.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in ship supply, marine procurement, or a similar purchasing role.
  • Strong knowledge of ship chandlery items, bonded stores, and marine technical products.
  • Familiarity with procurement software and inventory management systems.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read technical specifications and interpret vessel requisitions.

Preferred:

  • Maritime/logistics background or relevant certification (e.g., CIPS, marine supply chain).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (e.g. IMPA codes).
