Job Description

Summary

The Program in Population and Environmental Health Disparities (PiPEHD) is hiring a Research Coordinator I to support the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program at Baylor College of Medicine. This position is part of a large, multi-site epidemiological study and includes responsibilities such as screening patients for eligibility, scheduling and conducting study visits, collecting biospecimens, managing data collection and entry, and performing other study-related tasks as needed. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong verbal communication skills.

Job Duties

  • Administers in-person screening questionnaires in a clinic setting to determine patient eligibility.
  • Conducts study visits, including administration of informed consent, study questionnaires, and collection of biospecimens.
  • Manages a database tracking all study activities, including screening and enrollment, scheduling of study visits, and disbursement of incentives.
  • Performs medical record abstraction.
  • Transports biospecimens to the laboratory.
  • Performs data entry with attention to detail.
  • Follows ethical guidelines related to human subjects research.
  • Collaborates closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) and other team members to ensure timely and efficient completion of all tasks.
  • Attends weekly study meetings with laboratory staff, field staff, and PIs to ensure all tasks stay on track and to address any issues that may arise.
  • Administers in-person screening questionnaires in a clinic setting to determine patient eligibility.
  • Conducts patient screenings in accordance with standards established by the Principal Investigators.
  • Schedules and conducts study visits, including administration of informed consent, study questionnaires, and biospecimen collection, following site-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Builds rapport with study participants to support long-term study participation.
  • Manages a database tracking all study activities, including screening and enrollment, scheduling of study visits, and disbursement of incentives.
  • Maintains and tracks biospecimens using databases such as REDCap and BioTrack.
  • Performs medical record abstraction.
  • Transports biospecimens to the laboratory and delivers them to on-site campus locations, including but not limited to Baylor College of Medicine facilities, Memorial Hermann Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital complex, and other Texas Medical Center buildings within walking distance (up to 0.5 miles).
  • Performs data entry with attention to detail and in compliance with SOPs.
  • Follows ethical guidelines related to human subjects research.
  • Collaborates closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) and senior research staff to ensure timely and efficient completion of all tasks and to update or develop site-specific SOPs as needed.
  • Attends weekly study meetings with laboratory staff, field staff, and PIs to ensure all tasks stay on track and to address any issues that may arise.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field; no prior experience is required for candidates who meet this educational requirement.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience with data collection in a clinical or epidemiologic research setting is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to work independently while also being an effective team player.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change, with strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and comprehensive documentation.
