Job Summary (Essential Functions)

The equipment operator, under supervision of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, performs work involving the use of large equipment, including specialized mowers. tractors, loaders, utility vehicles and other maintenance equipment.

Job Tasks/Duties:

• Operates various types of equipment, including but not limited to, walk behind mowers, triplex mowers, large area reel and rotary style mowers, blowers, sprayers, various heavy equipment and hand-held tools and equipment.
• May operate smaller equipment as directed by his/her supervisor.
• Ensures that the equipment operates safely at working at all times; refills fuel and oil daily; cleans equipment daily; and reports equipment problems or failures to his or her supervisors immediately
• Provides basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed by the superintendent or assistant superintendent, and returns equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility.
• Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
• Must have the ability to lift 50lbs

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations:

• Knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Position requires to work on weekends and holidays

Physical Demands:

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
• May need to use some protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate regularly works in outside weather conditions, and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The associate is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The associate occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
