Job Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Forensic Mechanical Engineer to join our investigative engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for determining the cause and origin of mechanical system failures, with a focus on HVAC systems. This role involves conducting root cause analyses, evaluating damage, and producing clear, defensible technical reports. The position requires collaboration with insurance professionals, legal teams, and other experts. Key Responsibilities Perform on-site investigations to assess mechanical failures in HVAC and related systems. Determine cause and origin of mechanical issues stemming from design flaws, manufacturing defects, maintenance issues, or operational misuse. Conduct root cause analyses using engineering principles and forensic methodologies. Prepare high-quality technical reports that communicate findings clearly for use in insurance claims, litigation, or remediation planning. Offer expert opinions and participate in legal proceedings as needed. Stay current with mechanical codes, standards, and best practices relevant to forensic evaluations. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Active and valid Professional Engineer (PE) license. Minimum 5 years of experience in forensic mechanical engineering or investigative roles. Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and common mechanical failure modes. Excellent analytical, verbal, and technical writing skills. Requirements Professional Engineering (PE) License – Must hold a current and valid PE license in mechanical engineering. Forensic Mechanical Engineering Experience – Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting forensic investigations involving mechanical systems, equipment, and components. Cause & Origin Determination – Proven ability to determine the cause and origin of mechanical system failures, particularly in the context of damage claims, insurance investigations, or litigation. HVAC Systems Expertise – In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including design, operation, and failure modes in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
