ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

The ESL Tutor/Collaborator plays a key role in advancing student success through individualized tutoring, collaborative academic support, and the coordination of Writing Center services. This in-person position is responsible for mentoring peer tutors, managing student outreach and engagement, and developing instructional resources to enhance writing skills across diverse student populations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Tutor students individually and in small groups in reading, writing, or related subjects.
  1. Create client reports for each appointment.
  2. Track Perkins and non-Perkins related appointments.
  3. Provide support to instructors on best practices for helping English Language Learners (ELLs).
  4. Conduct workshops for Writing Center staff and faculty on effective strategies for supporting ELLs.
  5. Offer in-classroom support and lead workshops.
  6. Develop resources to assist students, tutors, and faculty.
  7. Utilize Starfish, WCOnline, Teams, and other platforms to fulfill duties.
  8. *This is an in-person position based in the Writing Center.

EDUCATION:

  • Baccalaureate Degree required in at least one of the following areas: English, Writing or a related field.
  • Degree or certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), ESL (English as a Second Language), or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred in an ESL or EFL context is preferred.
