Draper, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for an NC Programmer/Manufacturing Technician. The position will create and verify programming CNC machine tooling. The programmer will also be responsible for tooling, fixturing, and setup sheet definition and documentation creation. They will also be responsible for taking a hands-on approach to continuous improvement in programming and fixturing under the supervision of the cognizant Manufacturing Engineer.

Responsibilities include:
    \n
  • The primary role of the NC Programmer will be to take over all 2D and 3D programming for Draper's machine tools including Haas Mills, turret punch, folder/brake press, coil-fed and plate lasers, and other equipment as required. 3-/4-axis mill programming experience is required.
  • \n
  • This position will focus on mostly mill-tool programming to begin with (learning Draper's parts, programming techniques, tooling, etc) but will also take over 2D programming over time (if training is required).
  • \n
  • Programming of machine tool(s) including but not limited to production level, prototyping, troubleshooting, and R&D activities.
  • \n
  • Working closely with the Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Design, and Quality to ensure programs are sound and fully documented.
  • \n
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and understand tolerances.
  • \n
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements include:
    \n
  • High school diploma or GED with vocational school or past machine shop experience specializing in CAM programming and CAD modeling. Minimum 2 years of experience.
  • \n
  • 3D programming experience required.
  • \n
  • 3D CAD Modeling experience required and 2D experience preferred.
  • \n
  • 3-/4- axis milling tooling and programming experience is required.
  • \n
  • Good computer literacy required.
  • \n
  • Knowledge and ability to perform basic shop math and utilize Machinery's Handbook as needed is required.
  • \n
  • General machining troubleshooting knowledge such as adjustments to feeds and speeds, chatter, cutter compensation, runout, and whip are required along with techniques for remedying resulting issues (offset adjustments, etc.) is preferred.
  • \n
  • Ability to run 3-/4-axis vertical mills (both CNC and semi-automated) is preferred.
  • \n
  • Ability to read and understand G- and M- codes is preferred.
  • \n
  • General working knowledge of parametric programming methods a plus.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies a plus.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of 5S and other best shop practices a plus.
  • \n
  • Working knowledge of machine tool setup for a variety of part geometries (2D and 3D).
  • \n
  • Working knowledge of 2D and 3D programming techniques (nesting, toolpath optimization, program verification, etc). 3D programming is most important - 2D can be learned through on the job training.
  • \n
  • Ability to use indicators, edge finders, tram bores, inspect and/or measure if needed.
  • \n
  • Working knowledge of automated/semi-automated on-machine probing techniques (Renishaw, etc).
  • \n
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and provide feedback effectively with all personnel.
  • \n
  • Self-starter and highly motivated to make improvements and increase efficiencies.
  • \n
