THE POSITION Under the direction of the Director of Transportation or designee, is responsible for assisting the Bus Driver in the loading, unloading, care and supervision of students ensuring a safe, clean, and positive environment during transport.
CURRENT OPENING: Five 10-month/20 hours per week positions. Salary placement will be on Range 15 of the CSEA Salary Schedule "B." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($20.77 per hour) of this salary range.
Optional Second Language Requirement: Some positions in this classification require the ability to speak, read, and write a second language in addition to English, and may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277).

Essential Duties The classification specification does not describe all duties performed by all incumbents within the class. This summary provides examples of typical tasks performed in this classification.
- Assists Bus Driver in the securing of students and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
- Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses.
- Monitors and supervises students and school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct at all times and to maintain adherence to District policies.
- Participates in meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, etc. as assigned.
- Prepares reports (e.g., incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purposes of documenting activities and complying with established guidelines.
- Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety.
- Reports observations and/or incidents for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for action.
- Communicates with District personnel regarding student conduct as appropriate.
- Assists with maintaining a clean bus environment.
- Performs other related duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in the classification: lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. unassisted and over 50 lbs. with assistance; sit; stand for extended periods of time while bus is in motion and stopped; walk up and down stairs; stoop/bend; use fingers repetitively; twist or apply pressure with wrists or hands repetitively; use both hands and/or legs simultaneously; have rapid mental/muscular coordination; speak clearly; hear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work in a school and school bus environment; exposure to moving machinery; work in changing temperatures to over 90 degress; exposure to gas, exhaust, and cleaning solvent fumes, dust (moderate to high concentrations of silica or allergenic dust), and odors; exposure to minor and severe contagious illnesses/diseases (colds, flu, tuberculosis, measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis); exposure to bodily fluids; in direct contact with the public, students, district personnel; exposure to disruptive or non-compliant students.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
No education required.
Experience:
Six months of paid or unpaid experience working with and/or caring for students. Some experience in working with children with special needs is desirable.
Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid First Aid certificate and must be kept valid during the term of employment.
- Possession of a valid Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate issued by a recognized training program and must be kept valid during the term of employment.
- Completion of Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention (NCPI) training within the first six months of employment (provided by the District).
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. Absence of back problems or any other physical impairments that might preclude the performance of physical labor or lifting must be evident.

COVID Vaccine Requirement Per Board policy, employees are allowed on District campuses or facilities only if they are fully vaccinated. This resolution applies to all applicants upon hire. General Information The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of an application screening, initial screening of qualifications, documentation/certification screening, and in some instances supplemental application screening. The examination may consist of any combination of the following: training and experience evaluation, written knowledge test, hands on/performance test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. All parts of the examination process are job related. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on the eligibility list, which depending on the classification, may be in force for six months or one year.

Paid Holidays Up to 16 holidays per year depending on months worked for all classified employees.
Paid Vacation Vacation is prorated for all classified employees, based on the hours and months worked per year. Below is the vacation schedule for classified supervisors and classified staff.
Classified Employee Vacation Chart 1-5 years of service
- One day of vacation will be earned per month worked.
6-10 years of service
- One and one-quarter (1 ¼) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
11-15 years of service
- One and one-half (1 ½) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
16-20 years of service
- One and three-fourths (1 ¾) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
21 + years of service
- Two (2) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
Health Benefits For positions 35 hours or more per week the District contributes $12,900 (subject to change) toward annual premium for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Partially paid benefits are available for part-time (20-34) hour employees. The District participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.
District Benefit Providers: The following benefit providers are available for enrollment for eligible employees.

Paid Sick Leave Every regular classified employee, probationary or permanent, can earn paid sick leave credit(s) based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit. Full-time classified employees (those who work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and 12 months per year) will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave credit(s) during each fiscal year.
